Another thing to remember is that with an MMO, your goal isn't to attract a large contingent of hobby-type players. You want to grab the attention of those people who have/can devote the time required to establishing their presence in the game and a fee-based model tends to ward off those folks who would log on a time or two and then drop off the face of the earth. The challenge is to set that fee at the precise level that causes people who aren't really in the target market to think twice before committing but doesn't make the real gamers run screaming. I think we're doing a good job of walking that line…
